Swim Lessons
Our last swim lesson for the season. Both boys were jumping off the side of the pool, and swimming under water about 5-7 feet unsupported. There's certainly not a trace of fear when it comes to water. I wish there might be a LITTLE fear. Oh well. Better teach them to swim quick, because otherwise, they'll just jump in and sink!

The things we learn, the hard way
FYI - According to the Michigan Poison Control Center located in Lansing, MI.... it is not excessively harmful for a 3 year old to ingest 66,640% of the ADULT recommended daily dosage of Vitamin C, even if that 3 year old happens to only have one kidney. The same is true for, say, TWO 3 year olds. Their urine, however, may have a fruity smell for several days afterwards. Don't ask me how I know this.
Loving Ghosts
The boys' new favorite phrase is "nice and warm".. as in "Mom, I need to get nice and warm". Given that the average outside temperature has rarely topped double digits over the past month, this is to be expected. Today, after a shower, the boys rushed immediately to their blankies, to get "nice and warm". A little wrestling and hugging also helped to increase body temperature. They're smiling under there, I know they are!

Ask a Dumb Question....
When the boys woke up this morning, I asked them how they slept. Quinn put his head on his hands, closed his eyes and started snoring. "Like that, Mom". DUH....

Cooking Without Mommy
The boys have been helping me in the kitchen lately....I try to be patient. It's hard. This morning, I was baking cookies for our little trip to the Children's Museum. I ran upstairs to get the boys' clothes, and when I came back, they had "helped" me add a little (as in the entire container) of flour to the "fresh out the oven" batch. Guess we didn't need that many cookies anyways.

Colby-Mommy Day
Being fair is of utmost importance when raising children. All parents know this. So, since Quinn got a "Mommy-Quinn" day a while back, today was dubbed "Colby-Mommy" day. While Quinn hung out with grandma and grandpa, Colby and I went grocery shopping at Walmart (whooo hooo). This was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Colby, with no-one to kick or fight with in the cart, and no one to instigate him to run amok through the aisles, behaved perfectly for a solid hour and a half. I was very proud. Afterwards we went through the Arby's drive-thru, and then on to the Library for some computer, puzzle, and book time. It was fun. He's started this game, where he throws out a subject and asks me a sing a song about it. It worked well at first, because he had Disney movies on the brain, and I always had a ready answer. He'd yell "Lion!" and I would sing the "Wee mo Wup" song. "Train!" and I would sing Casey Jr. Today the song game became a little more of a challenge. "CUP!" Uhhhh.... I think I sang something like "When I'm thirsty, I drink from a cup... a cup... a cup.... the end". "EH!" "Egg?" "No... EH! Sing an EH song, Mommy." You know, like the phonic sound of the letter E. GEEZ Colby. This was getting hard. "Eh, Eh, Eh, Eh... the end." And then he smiles and says "All done with the EH song." Yup. All done. When he's being a good boy, he's so dang CUTE!
When we went to go pick up Quinn afterwards from Grandma and Grandpa's house, I asked how he had been. I got a blank stare. "Quinn?" "Yes, Quinn, who's been here for the last 3 1/2 hours." Grandma said "you're kidding." I was getting a little worried at this response. "We thought we had Colby this whole time!" REALLY??? The funny thing was that Quinn didn't correct them when they called him Colby. If "Colby" was getting to watch movies and eat crackers at Grandma and Grandpa's house, then he'd be Colby. Didn't matter to him!

The recipe for My Least Favorite Soup
Fill one bathtub with approximately 3 inches of water, but leave the faucet on "a trickle" for entertainment value.
Add two rambunctious, naked 3 year olds
Sprinkle 2 dozen foam letters and other miscellaneous bath toys, and then let simmer for 5 minutes, to leave the room and have an uninterrupted, adult conversation with your spouse.
Blend with one entire "megaroll" of toilet paper.
Infuse with the full-force of water pressure (boys are tall enough to reach the faucet now!)
Mix vigorously with rapidly kicking little arms and legs to dissolve all the toilet paper into a mulch that will cover all children and surfaces, as well as flood the bathroom floor.
Revel in the madness, laughing hilariously, to cause parents to rush frantically into the room
Pretend to be shocked and dismayed by saying "Oh NO! What a mess!" while the mother attempts to extract bits of toilet paper mulch from sticky little bodies, and the father washes the "pot" afterwards.

Marrying the Sommervilles
The boys are "best friends" with another set of identical twin boys, Zac and Tobin, who are also 3 years old. Apparently, while over visiting last week, Quinn "married" Zac, and Colby "married" Tobin. There are laws against that sort of thing here, on numerous grounds, so we're assuming it won't stick. I was upset at having missed my only sons' weddings! And the dancing at the reception looked like so much fun, too!

Poor Quinn
So Quinn woke up from his nap covered... no ENCASED.... in poop. On hands, in hair, down both legs. Seems like the majority of my conversations seem to dwell around excrement these days. But I digress. He was promptly placed in the shower, and then I went about my business, cleaning the kitchen. After a few minutes I hear "MOOOMMMM, it's coh!" "What??" ask I. "It's ok", he says. A few minutes further "MMMMOOOOMMM, it's coh!" "WHAT?? I don't understand what you're saying!" "It's ok" he says. Then a third time. "MMMMOOOMM, it's coh!". That's when it hits me. I am doing dishes, and turning on the hot water. His shower goes cold. I turn the water off to hear what he's saying, and of course, by that time... "it's ok". Poor kid. He's telling me that "Brown Yuckie is all done" now, so I'd better go fetch him out of the water. At least when I'm on the computer, he gets consistent water temperature.

My Favorite "Twin-isms"
The boys really are starting to talk better. It's been a long slow process, but they're getting there. Some of my favorite current sayings, and their English translations....
"Underwunder" = underwear
"Bunt" = button
"Once Upon A Time" = please read aloud
"Excuse you ketchup" = in response to any bodily noise
"Da da da" = I'm running around naked
"Scary" = It's dark in here
"Brown Yuckie" = well... guess
"Whoopsie daisy" = I've spent alot of time with grandma LaVerne lately
